What To Pack

Whether you have already booked your Siciclando Bike tour or you are just thinking about one, you have probably wondered, "How do you pack for a bike tour?" Overpacking and underpacking can both be avoided by reading this quick guide!

First things first, the practical stuff. We will provide you with a GPS unit that is preprogrammed with your rides, so no need to pack any kind of fancy GPS tech; we've got you covered. You will also be provided with a new water bottle that fits into your bike and a helmet. Of course, if you have a water bottle that you love or a special helmet that you prefer to wear, feel free to bring them! We occasionally have clients who want to bring their own bikes as well. This is doable, but it does take some careful coordination. Make sure to mention that you would like to do this early on in the planning process so we can discuss feasibility. Don't forget that we have a fantastic fleet of top-of-the-line bikes, which is refreshed every year. Read the Siciclando Equipment page to learn more about our bikes.

"What about pedals and cleats?" Our tours are custom-designed for you, and our clients run the gamut from expert cyclists to occasional riders. The bikes aren't automatically equipped with pedal clips or anything too technical, so that they can work for everyone. However, if you adore your pedals and want to bring them, we can absolutely arrange for them to be attached to your assigned bike. Make sure to pack the pedals and your bike shoes! Never ridden a bike with bike cleats or special pedals? No problem! Bring a comfortable pair of tennis shoes that you would normally wear for biking, and don't forget socks!

Sun protection is very important while biking. Consider packing a bandana or a visor to wear under your helmet to better protect yourself from the sun. Comfortable sunglasses that fit your face are also important. You don't necessarily need top-of-the-line Oakleys designed for biking, but you want to make sure they fit snugly and won't be sliding off your face. Sunscreen is a must! Pack your favorite SPF and make sure to slather it on thick before your rides! We recommend 50+, especially during summer months. If you forget sunscreen, you can easily find some for purchase in cosmetic shops, pharmacies, and sometimes even in grocery stores and convenience stores.

Now, moving on to clothing, the same general rules apply as when packing for any other type of trip. Consider the region your bike tour will be in and the season. You may not need sub-zero gear for a tour in Sicily in June, but for a Dolomites tour in June, you will likely need some warm gear, especially for chilly mornings. No matter where you are going, bring some options for layering, with some short-sleeve and long-sleeve options, along with a wind/rain jacket. Pack some comfortable walking shoes if your tour includes guided city tours or site visits, and consider bringing some nice dinner shoes as well. Depending on your tour, dinners range from casual to Michelin-starred, so pack your non-biking attire accordingly! Ties are never required.
